This extraordinary artist will join us to watch rare film and video clips of her performances and to discuss her life and career with the event's executive producer, Paul Gruber.

Few living singers can be described as "legendary," but the soprano and actress Teresa Stratas is surely one of them. Between 1959 and 1995, she gave more than 380 performances at the Metropolitan Opera. Those lucky enough to have seen her in her signature roles - Berg's Lulu, Puccini's Mimì and Suor Angelica, Smetana's Marenka, Weill's Jenny and Corigliano's Marie Antoinette - still talk about these unforgettable portrayals as milestones in their theatergoing memories.

Stratas's work on stage, film and television has been marked by searing intensity and a musical and theatrical commitment to every role she has chosen to play. Her own life has also been a unique journey. No one has ever performed or lived like Teresa Stratas.

In the past decade and a half, her public appearances have been rare. The Metropolitan Opera Guild is honored to be able to pay tribute to this remarkable woman.

Following the program, join us for a champagne and dessert artist’s reception at The Century Association: $150 for premium seating and reception (members and nonmembers) . A few boxes of six seats are available for $1,000 each, which includes both the performance and reception for you and your guests.
